The school district is composed of various schools. Every one of those schools feed into how the school district is rated. So the school district doesn't receive a rating by itself. The school district received the rating as a result of how the schools perform. Then so, there could be one school that could keep the school district from being a high performing school. There could be one school that prohibits the school district from being a C. I would like for the community to look at the success stories; look at every individual school and how that school is feeding into the school district to see how that school district is moving. And if we look at every school then it would be very clear where the weaknesses are and where the pain points are. Kennedy Early Childhood Center, that school doesn't have tested, tested grades so that rating is a combination of an average of how our elementary schools score. So currently Kennedy is rated a C. Then we have Otken. Otken is a 1 through 3 school; Otken Elementary is a 1-2-3 school; the only grade level there that's tested is third grade. So with our accountability model there is achievement and there is growth. There is no growth for third grade students because that's the first time that they took the assessment. So the achievement comes from from Otken but the growth will come from wherever those students go to 4th grade. So Otken is currently rated a C and we're very excited about that because Otken has over the course of the last 3 years, they've increased their proficiency levels in English language arts reading and they, they've increased their proficiency levels in mathematics. So they have continuously improved. Summit - Summit Elementary, you know that Summit is our pilot school for student-centered teaching and learning, our personalized learning school that we brought on board about 4-5 years ago, and that school has been consistently rated a D but the great news is that, that school is now gone from D to B. This is the first time we're excited about that because this is the first time that we've ever had a B rated school under the A through F model of accountability. So we're excited about that and what that tells us is that when we stick with the process, when we trust the process, it begins to work. School has been rated a D, now that school is rated a B which is very exciting for the McComb School District; it's very exciting for the scholars, the teacher practitioners, and the lead learner at Summit. The next school is Higgins. Currently Higgins is rated a D; That school has been rated a C in the past and it fell to a D. We're looking at all of those pieces; we have unpacked the data; we know what those pain points are at Higgins and what we've done is that we've put measures in place to tackle those pain points. One of those pain points is our English language arts and that is, that also encompassess reading and we put measures in place to overcome those, to overcome those deficits. The next school is Denman. Denman is our Junior High School. That school has been rated an F for the last 2 years. That school has gone from an F to a C so that is good news. And also last year was the first year that we rolled out student- centered teaching and learning to that 7th and 8th grade school. And so Denman went from F to C. They're excited about that. The high school - the high school dropped from C to D and we know specifically where those pain points are at the high school. All of those schools feed into the district and so when all of the schools feed into the district district received it's rating. We have said, we have received some great success from our schools; we look at Summit going from D to B; we look at Denman going from F to C, but the district could not pull out a C. When we look at the district we made tremendous progress as a district, and so we know that we are right there and the measures that we put in place, we are confident that we're right on the verge of the district turning around. And so it is our position, we know and we are excited. We're not excited about where we are with a D rating for the district but we're very excited about the measures that we put in place to turn this Battleship around. We're not sprinting; the journey, we're on this journey; we're on this journey for the long haul because one of the things that I envision for this community is sustainability. I envision that long after I'm gone that what we build is still there; that the academic successes that, that what we have poured into these scholars that that is there long after I leave. We're coming back; it's time for a comeback! And so we're right there on the verge and what I ask you to do that, see the success; see the success that we made in each of our schools. Just imagine what McComb School District will become, what our school district will become. So Community, I'm telling you to get excited about the successes that we've had, trust the process, and the McComb School District is on a comeback!
