Welcome Message
It’s the secret sauce to a 21st century education. When the arts are infused into
classrooms, student learners experience something savory and unique. Leaders in
educational research conclude that arts education has positive effects on academic
and behavioral outcomes.* The McComb School District believes that there is an art
to teaching and that the work of the arts educator happens on a stage of influence and
possibility.
We embrace The John F. Kennedy Center’s definition of arts integration. Arts Integration
is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding
through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form
and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both. Arts can be infused in
many ways, but the three categories we promote in classrooms are: (1) the arts as
curriculum, (2) arts enhanced curriculum, and (3) arts integrated curriculum.
