Hello parents and Guardians. I hope all of you are well and I hope our scholars are doing well also. We are definitely in unchartered and unfamiliar territory. Many have said that we are in unprecedented times; I agree with that but I would like to call these trying times. Much as changed for us since spring break. What was normal when we departed for spring break was not the case upon our return. I would like to thank you for your patience as we created avenues to continue providing meals and instruction for our children. Last Wednesday, a week ago, we instituted our grab-and-go meals at Higgins Middle School and Otken Elementary. Last Friday, we instituted our bus delivery grab-and-go meals. From Wednesday until Friday of last week, we provided 1596 meals. To ensure academic instruction continues, we developed academic packets. By now, all parents should have picked up these academic packets. Parents, I strongly encourage you to work with their children on completing these academic packets so that they will be on track when they return to school. We will continue to give these academic packets until we return to school. I know most of you, like many of us, you have many unanswered questions, but maybe overtime those questions will be answered. The Mississippi Department of Education has suspended all State assessments for kindergarten readiness assessments, grades 3 through 8 MAAP assessments, and the subject area assessments for the high school. Policy waivers for promotion and graduation, these will be discussed tomorrow at a meeting that MDE will have and I will keep you updated as that unfolds. But, throughout the course of this uncertainty, we will get through this. We will get through this together. When we emerge from this, all of us will be different. We will have a new appreciation for life, a new appreciation for the simple things in life that we've probably taken for granted. When we emerge from this, all of us will have a new appreciation for educator and a new appreciation for our schools. I would like to close by saying that you have some extraordinary standout people working with and for your children. During this crisis, district office staff, directors, principal, teachers, cafeteria staff, custodial staff, transportation staff, and Board members, and all other hands on deck. They have proven that they care deeply and unselfishly about your children. Please remain safe during this time and follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Mississippi State Department of Healthy guidelines. Please be safe. We will, we will get through this together. Thank you very much and have an extraordinary day.
