Required Immunization
New Immunization Requirements for students entering 7th Grade in the 2012-2013 School Year

Beginning in the 2012-13 school year all 7th graders are required to have an additional immunization (Tdap) for school entry. The student will need to present an updated form 121 on enrollment. Please see the attached news release from the MS State Department of Health. For this process to be as seamless as possible please begin to distribute the information to parents as soon as possible. Please contact Estelle Watts at 601-359-1737 if you have any questions about this requirement. You can also access MSDH website for other immunization information.

The Tdap vaccine (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) is recommended for all adolescents, however, it will be required for those entering 7th grade in this upcoming school year. This is an effort to prevent the spread of pertussis, also known as whooping cough that has increased in frequency in recent years.

During the week of April 23-27, 2012 all children up to 18 years of age can receive this and all vaccines free at Health Department Clinics as part of National Infant Immunization Week. In addition to these dates you, may take your child at any time to receive their vaccine at our local health department for a $10 administrative fee or to your vaccine provider for your insurance coverage or their office fee.

For more information you may call Margaret Hart, R.N. at 601-249-5135, Pike County Health Department at 601-249-1030 or your vaccine provider.
