Letter to Our Community for the 2012-2013 School Year
It is my pleasure to welcome everyone to the 2012 -2013 school year.
The past year was full of successes, celebrations, and milestones—all accomplished through the hard work and dedication of YOU—the McComb School District Team.
In June teachers and administrators from across the district spent a full week unpacking common core standards, developing school level action plans, and focusing on
instructional strategies to engage our students at deeper levels of understanding. However, our end goals remain the same—improved student achievement, increased
graduation rates, and postsecondary success.
A strong academic focus along with sound instructional strategies, the use of interactive technology in classrooms, and access to online resources are assisting teachers
to prepare our students to better navigate the 21st Century Global world. Teachers are challenging students to think critically, problem-solve creatively, assume responsibility,
develop self-efficacy around learning, contribute to their community, and believe in others as well as in themselves.
Because of YOU, our school district is positioned to be a leader in school reform and transformation. In spite of the current negative climate around public education, through
tenacious efforts and high expectations, we can emerge as a model of success. As we realize that change must occur first from within each of us (think Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror”),
we will collectively become the change we want to see in others. With our community believing in us, our parents supporting us, and YOU our teachers and staff meeting the challenges of
these tough times—our students will continue to thrive and leave us truly empowered to change the world.
I am thankful to have this opportunity to work with you as your superintendent, and I value the unique contribution each of you makes in the education of our children. Please know
that you are a valued and appreciated member of this organization, and I am grateful for the opportunities you create each and every day in the lives of the young people in your charge.
Fully embracing that I must lead by becoming an example of transformation and change, I solicit any suggestions, comments or ideas for how we can improve together.
Please email me at PalmertreeT@mccomb.k12.ms.us. Thanks to everyone for your positive attitude and commitment to our students. It is indeed an honor to serve as your superintendent.
Sincerely,
Therese Palmertree
